Building a home at the base or in the close proximity to an active volcano is about as smart as those nutty Californians who build on the side of a cliff then wonder why their house fell down after an earthquake or a mudslide. Looked at Leilani Estate on Google and the lava zone map. Zones go from 1 (most active) to 9 (least active). Leilani lies in a zone 2 bordering on zone 1. Zone 1 is the fissure and it does a funny zag around Leilani. I had sympathy for these people until I looked at the maps. Leilani Estate is in about the most dangerous possible place to build a house. Pure insanity.
